Postgraduate Seminar: Mr Philippe Nashar – Iterative methodology for the synthesis of polycyclic ethers
Speaker:Mr Philippe Nashar, PhD candidate, School of Chemistry, The University of Sydney (Drinks and nibbles to follow this lecture)
Host: A/Prof Chris McErlean [Map]
The formation of polycyclic ethers using a reiterative approach has only three necessary steps; conjugate addition, cyclisation, and reduction. This work outlines the in-depth exploration of the conjugate addition which has shown the novel TMS-shuttle conjugate addition allows for access to previously unobtainable moieties. The photoredox catalysed process to effect cyclisation in a stereoselective manner has been achieved through the use of the polyoxometalate tetra–n-butylammonium decatungstate (TBADT). Lastly the stereoselecitve reduction of the cyclic ketone has been accomplished to finish the three necessary steps for the reiterative cycle.
