Title: Coordination Clusters as building blocks for giant frameworks
Abstract
In this talk the idea of using coordination clusters as building blocks for framework materials will look beyond the relatively small coordination compound building blocks used in, for example, MOFs and present examples of 3D materials where the coordination compound units can contain as many as 79 metal ions. When the metal ions within the coordination cluster building unit are paramagnetic, this can also lead to interesting but complex and sometimes exotic magnetic behaviour. An example for this is the slow relaxation of the magnetisation for the 3d framework based on Fe13 building units.
The Fe13 building block’s magnetic behaviour indicates an antiferromagnetic spin frustration for this unit (Angew. Chem.Int.Ed.2005,44,6678–6682).
